Soccer Field Needs

Soccer Field Needs

As the Village of Mount Horeb plans for future park space, it's important for all families to help advocate for the soccer club's needs.

Why Your Voice Matters

With over 300 players each season (K–12), our club is one of the largest youth sports programs in town. Yet:

  • We only have complete use of 3 fields in the fall and 2 in the spring.

  • Only one of those is a full-size field.

  • In the spring, we lose a field to baseball and have limited high school access before 6:00 PM.

This forces our teams to:

  • Start practices as early as 4:00 PM—a challenge for working families and volunteer coaches.

  • Share overcrowded fields—up to 4–5 teams practicing at once on the same field some nights.

  • Modify or cancel practices due to unsafe or poor field conditions.

Field Conditions Are a Growing Concern

Here’s a snapshot of the challenges we face:

Liberty (U14/full-size field)

  • Frequent flooding, especially near the shelter.

  • High wear and tear from constant use.

  • Teams often practice on just ⅜ of a field to avoid wet areas.

High School (U12 field)

  • Drainage issues have worsened each year.

  • We’ve had to cancel or relocate multiple weekends of games, costing extra time, effort, and money.

  • The district plans to replace the baseball field currently at the PC by taking most of the space at the high school soccer practice fields. This will take away a game field from the club for the spring season plus significant practice space.

Sunrise (U10 field)

  • Uneven and bare grass from overuse and weather damage.

  • Increased risk of injuries for younger players.

  • More frequent practice and game cancellations due to poor field conditions.

What We’re Asking For

We’re asking the Village to include:

  • At least one full-size soccer field (110–120 yards long, 70–80 yards wide), with proper buffer space for goals, teams, and spectators.

  • Ideally, two full-size fields or a full-size field plus a dedicated U12 field.

Why?
A full-size field can also be split into smaller fields for U10 and U12 games, giving us flexible, safe, and adequate space to support all age groups.

How You Can Help

Please attend the Village meeting on May 21—even if just for a few minutes—to show support and share your experience. The more families that show up and speak up, the better chance we have to secure the field space our players deserve.

If you can't make it, please contact the village to help them understand the soccer club's growing need for space.

Thank you for being part of our soccer community and helping us grow the game in Mount Horeb!
